There are so many things to fear...lack of money, lack of food, the weather. I am sure you can think of a few more.
The weather is one thing I have never feared. While I do have a healthy respect for severe weather, I don't get a panicky when it's bad out. That is because when I was about 3 or 4 my mother told my little brother and me not to be afraid, that God would take care of us in the storm. That particular storm turned out to be a tornado that flattened a neighbor's home. They were okay and so were we.
I have lived all over and experienced many bad storms, hurricanes, cyclones and seen a tornado or two. Once lightning hit my home and blew off 9 rows of brick from our chimney. Talk about loud and scary! Oh my! But still I am not afraid.
I wish I was always so fearless in all matters. I used to be terribly afraid when my kids were sick. As teens they suffered from depression. That was very traumatizing for me and for some years I was full of fear. But I never lost faith. Some might argue that faith is an opposite of fear, but the Bible does not say so. The Bible says it can be healthy to be afraid. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
I love that are so many passages about not being afraid. The angels often started their messages that way. The Old Testament leaders would be told not to fear the battle because the battle is the Lords. Be strong in the Lord and be of good courage! When I am afraid I remember my mom's wise words and I remember Who calms all the storms!
